Transition time has begun!

We have been looking forward to the move to the new Food Works’ kitchen for a long time now, and the New Wings construction is in full swing.  We are not going to state a specific date, but we will be there early next spring.

Food Works is transitioning in many ways right now.   Those of you who are familiar with us know that we have been operating these many years out of two kitchens.  We are moving out of one of those kitchens now,  and we are consolidating staff into one location.   It will feel like a practice run for the merger next spring.

The “Villages” kitchen staff will now be operating with our other kitchen staff at the First United Methodist Church kitchen and also out of a small temporary kitchen location that has a walk-in freezer and refrigerator (which we can’t wait to use!). Everything and everyone will be in an area only a few blocks away from the final kitchen resting spot. As you can imagine, this is making holiday business a new challenge. We are up to it and actually we are planning on having fun with the changes.

Because of the large amount of transition we are not doing the traditional holiday cookie sale.  We have offered gift baskets for “corporate” gift giving and can still take orders on these until this coming Friday, the tenth of December.  PLEASE NOTE….we are only taking multiple orders (at least three to an order)  on these baskets and they are all to be delivered on the week  of the 14th through the 18th.  Sorry, but we just are unable to handle individual small orders at this time.  We are still running our contracts and providing our special event catering throughout the season.

Spiced Ginger Cake

A simply yummy fruited and spiced ginger cake adapted from George Washington’s mother’s recipe.

Our version has brandied raisins, grated orange zest, loads of ginger, and crystallized ginger sprinkled on top.

$9.00 per loaf wrapped and tied with ribbon

Minimum order of two loaves.  Please order by December 16th.
