What sets catering provided by Food Works apart?
First …..Food Works for Middle Way House prepares your food from scratch. Aside from a few breads, you can rest assured that when you order from us you are receiving food prepared especially for you. We do not ever provide food that is ordered pre-made from distributors, but prepare our delicious dishes here locally.
Second…..we strive to use the freshest and highest quality ingredients. All of the food prepared by Food Works starts with the high quality ingredients Bloomingfoods is famous for. We strive to include organic ingredients whenever possible, stress the importance of purchasing local first, and use the freshest ingredients possible.
Third……Food Works works on a very active and engaged level to provide opportunities to women who are victims of domestic violence to become economically self-sufficient while providing real culinary skills, a safe and supportive work environment, and a valuable work history to present to future employers. Every time you cater with Food Works you are enabling the Food Works program to provide women from Middle Way House shelter programming with jobs and training.
In addition to this, a portion of the money earned by Food Works goes to Middle Way House. The 15% service charge which covers indirect costs, delivery and setup (and in lieu of the gratuity many caterers automatically charge) makes each catering event customer a financial contributor to Middle Way House, as it is directly donated to the shelter. The same is true of the 7% service charge on Gourmet-t0-go pick up orders. In this way, when customers choose Food Works they are making an active choice to assist the Middle Way House Shelter. We also offer the opportunity to add a donation to any purchase at the Food Works Market located at 318 S. Washington street, either by participation in our “round-up” program which rounds up each ticket to an even dollar amount, or by any self declared amount rang into the register as a donation.
ANYONE CAN BE A VICTIM of domestic violence: rich … poor … old … young… married … single … Black, White, Asian, Hispanic, Native American … professionals … unemployed people …well-to-do people. Though both women and men can be a victim, the vast majority of victims are women, and for this reason Middle Way House focuses its services on women. For women age 15-44, domestic violence is the leading cause of injury in this country. When you use Food Works for Middle Way House you are supporting a program that works tirelessly providing 24-hour a day, 7-day a week, 365 days a year crisis intervention emergency services, shelter services, housing, support services, legal help, childcare and prevention and outreach services. These services cannot be provided without the generous support of our community and volunteers. Food Works for Middle Way House offers an easy way for you as a community member to contribute your support. Thank you for helping us to support the shelter!
